Privacy policy

Effective 27 September 2026 · applies to the Sidework app on Android and iOS.

The short version

• There is no account: no email address, phone number or password is ever asked for.
• Your own shifts, tips, jobs and goal are stored on your phone only. They are not sent to us.
• A team's tip pools are shared only with the phones that joined with the team's code.
• Sidework never uses your location, microphone, camera or contacts.
• The app is free and shows ads from Google AdMob, which uses your device's advertising identifier.
• Anonymous usage statistics show which features help; they never include amounts, names or anything else you type.
• You can delete your data at any time in More → Delete my data.

What stays on your phone

Your shifts (date, job, kind of shift, hours, cash and card tips, tip-out, sales, base pay and notes), your jobs and your weekly goal are kept in a file inside the app on your phone. Your phone's own backup (Google or iCloud), if you use it, may include this file. A CSV export happens only when you ask for it and goes where you choose to send it.

What a team stores

If you start or join a team, Sidework keeps the team in Google Firebase (Google LLC), on Google Cloud servers in the United States, so that everyone on the team sees the same pools. It stores:

• a random, anonymous user identifier created by Firebase Authentication for each phone;
• the team's name, its roles and their points, and its tip-out percentages;
• the name and role each person chose for themselves;
• each tip pool: its date, shift, total, how it was split, and each person in it with their name, role, points and hours;
• which phones are on the team, which of them are admins, and the team's code.

This data is visible only to the phones on the team. When someone leaves, the team keeps its pools. When the last phone leaves, or deletes its data, the team is deleted with everything in it.

Reminders and the widget

Shift and weekly summary reminders are scheduled on your phone, and the home-screen widget reads your week from the app on your phone; no push notification token is collected.

Advertising

Sidework shows banner and occasional full-screen ads through Google AdMob. To serve and measure ads, Google collects your device's advertising identifier (Android Advertising ID; on iOS the identifier for vendors — Sidework does not ask for permission to track you across other companies' apps), your IP address for approximate location, and how you interact with ads. In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland you are asked for consent before personalised ads are shown, and you can change your choice in More → Ad choices. You can also reset or limit your advertising identifier in your phone's settings. Google's use of this data is described at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Usage statistics

Sidework uses Google Analytics for Firebase (Google LLC) to count how the app is used — for example how many shifts are logged and how many teams are started. These events carry a random app-instance identifier, your device model, operating system and app version, and an approximate location (country or region) derived from your IP address. They never include amounts, names or anything else you type. Google keeps this event data for a limited time (at most 14 months).

Crash reports

If the app crashes, Firebase Crashlytics sends a technical report: the error, the device model, the operating system and app versions, and a random installation identifier. Reports are used only to fix bugs.

Children

Sidework is made for adults who work for tips. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them.

Your rights

You can see everything the app keeps in the app itself, and delete it with Delete my data (see how deletion works). For any question or request — including access, correction or deletion under the CCPA, the GDPR or other privacy laws — write to [email protected]. The legal bases we rely on are performing the service you ask for (the shared team), our legitimate interest in fixing crashes, and your consent where the law requires it for advertising.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date.
